Paediatric cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with heart problems in children, from unborn babies to young adults. Paediatric cardiologists are doctors who specialise in diagnosing, treating, and preventing heart diseases and defects in children, using tests, medicines, devices, and surgeries. Some of the common heart conditions that affect children are congenital heart defects, heart rhythm disorders, heart infections, cardiomyopathies, and heart failure.
Generally children referred to this clinic have more complex cardiac concerns. Children with heart murmurs who are not unwell, can be refers to a general paediatrician in the first instance.
