We are very committed to minimising the potential spread of Coronavirus, thus would ask for the safety of all patients, families and staff that you read and understand the following information.
What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a viral infection that is passed from human to human mainly through respiratory spread e.g. coughing, sneezing, being in the same room for prolonged periods. There is currently no treatment or vaccine for Coronavirus.
The majority of people infected with Coronavirus experience a mild flu-like illness with respiratory symptoms (cough, sore throat, shortness of breath) and fever for a few days. A small percentage have a more serious illness (pneumonia), which for some individuals can be life threatening.
Children currently appear to have a milder form of the illness, although can still easily transfer the virus to other people.
For the safety of all, we kindly ask that:
– Anyone who is currently unwell with respiratory symptoms (cough, sore throat, shortness of breath) or fever avoid face to face consultations at Paediatrics Ballarat
– Telehealth appointments can be utilised with advance notice for most patients.
– If a parent/carer of a patient is unwell, an alternative carer bring the child to their appointment, your appointment be postponed, or Telehealth is organised. Please ensure the number of people attending a child’s appointment is kept to a minimum.
For infection control purposes, we have removed all toys from our rooms – please ensure you bring any required toys for your child’s appointment.
We have also spread out chairs in the waiting room and, if full, request that patients waiting for appointments remain in their car or outside until called for appointments.
Do I need testing for Coronavirus?
You must be tested for Coronavirus if…
a) You have RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS (cough, sore throat, shortness of breath) OR FEVER
You have TRAVELLED OVERSEAS within the last 14 days OR you have had any CONTACT WITH A CONFIRMED CASE of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Paediatrics Ballarat DOES NOT offer testing or management of suspected or confirmed Coronavirus.
